Raymond’s story begins thousands of miles away in Puerto Rico, where he was born, and in the South Bronx of New York, where he grew up. Life’s path eventually brought him to California, and to WelbeHealth, at a time when caring for both his body and mind became just as important as caring for his community.
Today, Raymond describes himself as content and at peace. His days are no longer shaped by the stress and uncertainty he once felt, but by a sense of stability, routine, and belonging.
“From the moment I came here, I felt taken care of,” he shares. “It’s the people — they check in on me, they help me with my medications, and they call to follow up if anything happens. That means a lot.”
Caring for the Whole Person : Body, Mind, and Spirit
At WelbeHealth, we believe that truly caring for seniors, especially the most vulnerable, means caring for the whole person. That’s why mental and behavioral health is not an afterthought in our model of care. It’s woven into everything we do.
Unlike traditional care settings where seniors may have to travel to multiple locations for different services, WelbeHealth provides in-house behavioral health support right in our centers. Our trained specialists work side-by-side with primary care providers, nurses, therapists, and social workers. This means participants like Raymond don’t have to leave the center for mental health appointments, and their care is never disjointed. Every member of the care team shares information, collaborates, and makes sure nothing gets lost in translation.
Why Behavioral Health Matters for Seniors
Mental wellness plays a critical role in overall health — influencing everything from physical recovery to the ability to remain independent. For seniors, especially those facing chronic conditions or life changes, having a trusted behavioral health provider can help:
For Raymond, this combination of physical and emotional support has created a foundation where he can enjoy each day without the constant weight of worry.
“I’ve lived in a lot of places, but here I have peace,” Raymond says. “They really care about you here.”
